5 Things to Consider Before a Large Scale Remodel Project
Here are the five things that you should consider before embarking on a large-scale remodel.
Hey, Paul here with Paul Kowalski builders. You know, one of the first things you need to understand or ask yourself when doing a large-scale remodel is why are you doing the
project. That “why” is what drives the design behind it and really helps our team collaborate with you to create a project that is truly your own and meets your needs.
The second thing to consider is, have you looked into moving? Is there another home that can suit your needs without having to do the work that it takes to design a project and the expense? Sometimes finding a home with your realtor is maybe the best answer, but if you can't find that home, then a “design-build remodel” may be just the thing for you.
The third thing you want to consider is your finances. You know, what are you comfortable with? Have you talked to your financial advisor? What's your current situation and savings? Have you talked to a mortgage person? Are you considering a refi? Have you talked to your banker? Do you know what construction to perm loan is? All of these things need to be considered before moving forward with a large-scale project
The fourth item is, what are you prepared to invest? What's right for you? Yes, maybe the bank has the money that you can borrow, but is that what you're comfortable spending? Are you concerned about the ROI? Is your current situation worth spending and risking achieving that ROI? Is that the value of the whole project to you?
Lastly, you need to think about, “am I prepared, or is my family prepared to live through a
large-scale remodel?” Or have you made other arrangements so that you can be out of the
Home during construction? As a contractor, I can tell you that's much preferred. Have you made arrangements to accommodate your life while your home is being updated? Are you prepared for what's going to happen when this remodel gets started?
So, those are five great things to consider when you're thinking about doing a large-scale design-build project. I'm Paul Kowalski at Paul Kowalski Builders where we elevate the remodeling experience through our unique ability to collaborate, design, and create high-quality custom projects.
